What Supervisors Need to Know

Maryland COOP planning requires that all employees designated as COOP Critical must complete a family preparedness plan. Supervisors must acknowledge the plan, and provide general management guidance, as required, to assure the employee plan is complete.

There are several key components of a COOP family support plan.

	Personnel accountability procedures. Upon COOP activation and throughout COOP operations, supervisors should account for their employees and stay informed of employee status.
	Information dissemination plan. DHMH publishes a call-in-number where employees can call to receive information. The business unit operations plan should also provide for appropriate two-way communication between COOP staff and their families.
	Assistance in developing family emergency plans. Family support planning in advance of an emergency will help all employees and their families know what to do. Supervisors are encouraged to assist employees to prepare the plan, if necessary.
	Information about services at or near the alternate site. This information is included in the DHMH COOP planning process and documented for alternate sites.

Please review the Family Preparedness Checklist when provided by your employees. Complete the Supervisor Acknowledgement Form and acknowledge by your signature the existence of the employee plan. The plan must stay with the employee at work, and a copy must be at home for the family reference.
