Pet Care Information
Your family may not be together when disaster strikes, so some thinking and planning now will go a long way when an emergency strikes.
Pets are part of the family and you have to consider what they will need if you are not at home when an event starts. You also need to prepare for a potential evacuation and time away from your house or apartment.
This site gives you the basics to prepare your basic plan, but you may wish to refer to other sources provided on your Links page.
Pet care when you’re not there:
- Create a support network to help in an emergency.
- Alternate pet care arrangements – neighbors, family members – for an extended work duration.
- Who will feed, water, walk etc. clean-up until you can?
- Give a key to your house or apartment to trusted support person.
- Make sure pet vaccinations are up to date and tags are on a collar along with contact information.
- During an evacuation, make sure to take a leash, collar, and enough pet food and water for an extended stay away - as well as clean-up materials.
