Education - Applicants must have a
master's degree in a health and human services counseling field from an
accredited college approved by the Board with a minimum of 60 graduate
semester hours and coursework in the following areas:

|
|
c. |
Group Therapy |
|
|
d. |
Abnormal Psychology |
|
|
e. |
Addictions Treatment Delivery |
|
|

Topics in alcohol and drug counseling |
|
|
g. |
Family Counseling |
|
|
h. |
Theories of Counseling |
|
|
i. |
Human Growth and Development |
|
|
j. |
Diagnosis and Psychopathology |
|
|
k. |
Psychotherapy and Treatment of Mental and
Emotional Disorders |
|
|
l. |
Psychotherapy in alcohol and drug disorders
and |
|
Three credits in
professional practice that includes a specific focus on ethics in alcohol
and drug counseling.

2. |
Examinations -
Pass the Examination for
Master Addictions Counselors (EMAC) of the NBCC and the Maryland State Law
Test on Title 17 of the Health Occupations Article, Annotated Code of
Maryland and COMAR 10.58.

GRADUATE ALCOHOL AND DRUG COUNSELOR |
|
A Licensed Graduate
Alcohol and
Drug Counselor may practice for 2 years under the supervision of an
approved alcohol and drug supervisor while fulfilling the 2-years post
graduate supervised clinical experience. |

|
An Approved Alcohol and Drug
Supervisor is a
licensed clinical alcohol and drug counselor or a health provider licensed
under the Health Occupations Article, Annotated Code of Maryland, with
documented expertise in alcohol and drug counseling, as approved by the
Board. |
